I have been a Certified Massage Therapist for over 13 years. In that time I have seen massage therapy go from a perspective of pampering to a solid idea of health maintenance. I do have to say, the shift in attitude is a wonderful thing.
When I first started, most of my clients were women, and most told me they liked to schedule an occasional massage as a way to pamper themselves, or reward themselves for some thing they accomplished. As the years rolled by, more men started calling, usually those who work hard, physical jobs, such as construction workers. These fellows were looking for a way to prevent injuries and to keep going, day in and day out.
Phone calls increased as potential new clients asked about the use of massage for back pain, migraine relief and joint stiffness. Once they felt the tension and muscle release after a session, they rebooked, and my business grew.
Now I offer a Health Maintenace Package to my regular clients and many take me up on the offer. Not only as a way to save some dollars, but also, and more importantly, to have their sessions paid for and on the books.
It’s not very often, now, I hear someone say they want to schedule an appointment as a way to pamper themselves. Massage had earned an outstanding reputation as a modality of tension and stress relief. It has been proven to be a highly effective way to reduce pain and promote healing.
If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend you do so. Better yet, you can schedule a session with me. I’ll do my best to make a believer out of you. : )
