Yesterday evening, for the second time in my life, I drove through a tornado. It was a frightening and exhilarating experience of watery blindness, exploding noises, howling winds and uncertainty. And it was over within a few minutes.
As I sit here this morning, in reflection, I can see the relationship of that stormy experience to the tornadic energies swirling around myself and my community this summer. It’s turbulent and constantly changing.
Mother Nature’s fury can be destructive, but it opens up channels for new growth. These uncertain times many of us still face are the same. Through the upheaval of our lives comes the expansion for greater change and better opportunities. When you step into a storm clearing, the light is always brighter.
The experience of riding through any storm, usually, is not pleasant. Yesterday, I think I actually said the Hail Mary while trying to keep my vehicle on the road. Those words have not passed from my lips in years. This morning, though, I say words of thanks and gratitude for coming through the storm with myself and vehicle intact.
While it is easy to feel buffeted and storm weary with the unrelenting, thunderous weather and uncertain times, sunny days are always ahead. As simple as it is to drive into a swirling maelstrom of wind and rain, it is just as simple to drive out.
