Autumn is just around the corner and with that comes cooler nights, less humidity and dryness. Here in south central Indiana, we are bone dry and in desperate need of rain. Not only are the plants stressed, but I see my clients carrying a tension in their bodies which comes from the drought.
Weather conditions, seasonal changes, storms, changes in our natural environment affect us whether we are conscious of it or not. During sessions, I listen to complaints of sinus congestion, or drainage from hay fever, body aches and pains, stiff joints, coughing, headaches, stomach aches, conjunctivitis….the list can go on.
While we can’t do much about the weather conditions, we can help support our bodies to better handle the seasonal change and it’s ensuing physical complaints.
The human body has an inherent nature to move toward health. All we have to do is be conscious of this fact, and help it along it’s quest. With this in mind, the first thing I suggest is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. The body needs water and most of us are in a state of dehydration at all times. It’s especially true now with the drought conditions. Moisture is easily pulled from our bodies through our perspiration, breath, waste, and with the dry air, water is quickly wicked away.
Keep a source of water on hand at all times. Try to see that it is filtered and as pure a source as can be. If needed, go to the grocery and purchase steam distilled water, which will contain very little contaminants. Start drinking! When we are well hydrated, we feel better, have more energy, and generally find that some of the muscle and joint pain disappears.
Aches and pains can be addressed through better diet. Our western cuisine tends to sit in our digestive tracts far longer than needed. This begins a buildup of toxins which can create a general malaise of unhealth that can lead into more serious illness and disease. One of the first signs of this is joint pain and inflammation.
Switching to wholesome foods, i.e. fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, fresh juices and little or no meat will allow the body to begin a cleanse. If you would like to jump start the process, a three day cleanse using fresh juice and steam distilled water can be done. If that interests you, contact me and I can give you more information.
The use of an herbal formula to help cleanse the bowel can also help support the body. While there are many to be found on the market these days, the one I recommend is Dr. Christopher’s Lower Bowel Formula. The herbs used are organic, gentle and effective.
If you are dealing with sinus troubles, congestion or seasonal asthma, take all dairy out of your diet. Dairy promotes mucus in the body. The use of a neti pot once or twice a day will help moisten the nasal passages, promote a healthy mucus which traps environmental irritants and cut down on nasal symptoms.
Along with the suggestions above, bodywork will provide muscle and tension release, allowing better circulation, more relaxation and boost the immune system.
Any small thing you can do to support your body will help with the transition into cooler weather. Drinking more water, eating an apple a day, scheduling a massage, it all adds up to better health.
